Back With a Vengeance

Back With a Vengeance
By Kyle Grabowski
Starting only a few minutes after the first film ended, Harold and Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay is a delightful, yet coarse, film about two friends and their evasion of justice. The first Harold and Kumar film has been anointed as one of the greatest “stoner” comedies of all time and the sequel does not disappoint. Sadly, contemporary critics disagree with my assessment. Rotten Tomatoes said the film is “A cut below the original, but still funny and smart.” Only 57% of critiques rate it positively. While there is an extreme amount of marijuana and humor based off of it, subtle themes manage to poke through. Incompetence within the government runs deep as well as the superiority of the middle class over the snobby. All teenage males over 17 should drop what they are doing and drive down to see this film. It is easily worth the $7.50 in terms of not only frequency, but volume of laughter. Grab your buddies, a big bucket of popcorn, and a portable toilet seat just in case when you go to see Harold and Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay, in theatres everywhere.
